My Article's in Oh Reader Magazine!
I have some exciting news to share with you this morning, my friend.
An article I wrote entitled “Is Democracy a Literature Issue?” was published by Oh Reader Magazine this month (in Issue 023) and is hurtling its way to bookstore shelves as we speak!
It’s an updated, highly edited, spiffed-up version of a message I shared with you a few months ago about a little micro-book called How Books Can Save Democracy and the way it fueled my passion for reading all kinds of good books and talking about those books with people who disagree with me politically.
It’s an article I’m really proud to attach my name to and have sitting on bookshelves all over the world for two reasons. . .

Oh Reader is a gorgeous, diverse, inclusive magazine for, by, and about readers. It’s a publication I’ve been in love with for years (I’ve been a subscriber since Issue 002) and one I’ve dreamed of writing for since the first time I opened its pages.

In the article I get to talk about two topics I’m really passionate about: Why reading books matters, and Saving democracy. And while I’ve lived long enough to know better than to believe my words can (or should) change the whole world, I know that tiny shifts happen every time we take even a small step forward, and I feel grateful to have this opportunity to take a small step in this way.

I hope you find yourself running to the library afterward to find a new book to read—fiction, romance, memoir, dystopian, horror, fantasy, history, thriller—whatever you like, however you like it.
I hope you underline passages, write notes in the margins, journal, think deeply, and talk about those books with people who disagree with you, both politically and otherwise.
