Atomic Habits: How It Helped Me Publish My Second Book

I’ve been hearing about James Clear’s book Atomic Habits for years now. It’s one of those books that a lot of big-name folks have read and it’s received a lot of hype in personal growth circles. I knew there had to be a reason why, but it wasn’t until a friend told me she was reading it with her husband that I put it on my Libro Wish List. Still, I hesitated.

Did I really have time to change my habits?

Was there something I was missing out on if I didn’t?

I wasn’t convinced. Until a few weeks ago when I entered the final editing stage for Big Dreams, Big Change, Big Growth and realized it was going to take a lot more than my usual willpower and tiny early morning writing windows to get me over the finish line to publishing it. So I set off on a long walk one morning and pressed play on the audiobook version of this little book making big promises.

Within the first hour of listening, I was hooked by the author’s story of recovering from a life-threatening baseball injury as a teenager and how he used tiny habits to make big changes and not only heal, but go on to play baseball in college. (If you didn’t know, I love baseball so that instantly won me over.)

Within the second hour, I was learning how to make good habits more obvious, attractive, and easy for myself. And I was learning how taking those steps could be a major shortcut to being more me for my people and loving my life a lot more.

By the end of the book, I had not only set into motion new habits that made publishing my book a whole lot easier, but I was:

  • making my work calendar more manageable,

  • finding my reading time more productive,

  • getting better at organizing my grocery shopping lists, and

  • getting my kids to clean their own bathrooms more easily.

And yes, after stepping into my own atomic habits, I was able to make the final push and click PUBLISH on Big Dreams, Big Change, Big Growthsomething I’ve been working towards for three years.

So, Atomic Habits is a book I highly recommend.

And the author James Clear is also a bit of an online personality to follow, as well. His weekly newsletter is great, and he spreads a lot of positivity on Instagram, too. He also shares a lot of free goodies on his website. Just after joining his email group, I got this list of links:

If you’re working on a thing or two (or 50) right now, I hope this little book makes it a whole lot easier for you, too.

In case you missed last Friday’s announcement. . .

If you were one of the beautiful souls who purchased a copy this week, would you take a moment to leave a review? (Here’s a direct link to the review page.) Thank you SO much—this one little step helps independent authors like me more than I can even tell you.
