Burning Questions, Analog Office Supplies & Weekend Reading Material
Happy Friday, friend.
As I mentioned in last week’s message, things are getting interesting, dare I say chaotic, in my world of late. I’m living out of boxes, backpacks, and reusable grocery bags. I have no idea where 75% of my earthly belongings are currently located. I’m trying to keep the many plates spinning for my day job and the end-of-term school stuff with my kiddos. And my daily creative output is mostly just pages filled with sketches, lists, and random musings inside my notebooks and gratitude journals.
But I’m still here and happy to get to share with you five little things this week (with links!) ⤵
Something good to read. . .
Burning Questions: Essays and Occasional Pieces 2004-2022 by Margaret Atwood, A book I adopted after a funny meet-cute moment with my husband involving two copies of this book on two different shelves inside my favorite used bookshop in Portland, each of us simultaneously finding one and sharing with the other, which I took as a sign I needed to give one of those copies a loving home for the low price of $20. I’m loving it.
Something helping me thrive. . .
“What if we focused on the less and the deeper sometimes instead of spending all of our energy on the more and the different?”, An idea that came to me in podcast form this week from the latest Jonathan Fields interview with Mel Robbins on The Good Life Project podcast that has sparked deep thought, consideration, debate, and conversation about contentment with my people this week. I’m still thinking about it, chewing on the truth of it.
Something yummy. . .
The Analog Premium Weekly Kit by Ugmonk, And the fact that this little package came to me by way of my brand-new post office box in my new hometown. Can I tell you how amazing it feels to finally be able to receive regular mail and have a permanent mailing address after 7+ months of living #ontheroadagain? It feels so extremely amazing, even if we’re not quite in our new home just yet. Mail days are the best!
Something soothing. . .
In an effort to spend more of my weekends catching up on rest and local goings-on, I’ve taken to reading small/local magazines and bookazines on the weekends, and I’m finding it so soothing. My favorites so far are Oh Reader Magazine, Maine The Way, and Maine Home + Design. If you’re a magazine lover, I’d love to know your favorites. If you’d like to share, please do!
Something I’m curious about. . .
A few months into what is quickly feeling like hell on earth for many Americans and, at the very least, uncertain times for all of us here, our daily news outlets seem monopolized by one person and his actions. So I’m curious what the rest of the world is experiencing, what’s in their news cycles, and how they’re talking about what’s going on in my home country, which has led me to the Global News Podcast from BBC News on Spotify. It’s been enlightening, refreshing, and sobering to say the least. If you have recommendations for others, please send them along.
💛
Wherever you are this morning, I hope at least one of these five little things brings you joy and helps you thrive.
Big hugs from me,
Celeste
