Island Vibes with Airbnb Bookshelves

If your heart’s been as heavy as mine these past two weeks, you could use some good news, something positive, and maybe even some light, breezy island vibes right about now.

The news in the US has brought one heavy headline after another. If you have friends on both sides of what’s going on, like I do, social media and even hearing from old friends can feel like a daily landmine. We’ve had to dig deep lately to find the bright spots, decide how to show up for others, take care of ourselves, and sort out all our feelings.

I think I’m getting there. I hope I am. I’m working on it daily. But all that work on the inside means I don’t have much for you today, except for a heart that’s trying its best to claw itself out of negativity, trying to find something good to fight for, and simply here. I’m here. For you.

As my little family is quickly approaching the end of our current on-the-road houseless-living adventure, I’ll be writing to you these next two months from the coast of Georgia where the weather is warmer and the sun is shining brighter than my usual winter spot in Maine. Today, I’m on Tybee Island ~ a little slice of heaven close to Savannah ~ and I desperately wish you were here with me, sipping coffee and reading this delicious selection of good books our Airbnb hosts left for us ⤵

They must have known I was coming, hey?

I almost cried when we arrived last night, bleary-eyed from a long drive, and I spotted this little bookshelf with so many books I love, instantly making me feel right at home (a much-needed feeling right now). Instead of crying, I started shouting. . .

“Oh my god, the original Simple Abundance!”

“Look, Gift from the Sea too!”

Ina Garten’s cookbook ~ I’ve been wanting to read that!”

Chasing Slow! Spare! All those Mary Kay Andrews beach reads! Julia Childs! Martha Stewart! & so many old cookbooks!”

It was just the book-flavored bright spot I needed this week. Hopefully this message can be a bright spot in yours.

Wherever you are this morning, whatever’s in your heart and on your mind, I hope you’re taking extra care of yourself right now. Here's how I'm taking extra care (steal these if you love them)⤵

  • Texting friends instead of scrolling social media

  • Grace for myself when I scroll

  • Drinking extra water

  • Grace for myself when I forget

  • Taking daily walks outside

  • Grace for myself when I can't

  • Practicing yoga first thing every morning

  • Grace for myself when I skip

  • Forcing myself to rest extra on the weekends

  • Writing poems in my new Coffee Table Journal

  • Making extra long grateful lists in my daily journal

  • Spending money at small businesses owned by people who support peace, civility, diversity, and their community

  • Reading all the good books, always

Take care, my friend. And if you ever want to chat about any of it, all of it, I’m just a “Send” button away.

💛
Celeste
