When It's Time to Revise Your Daydream

You might remember me mentioning a little something about vision boarding earlier this year — okay, a lot of something about it. (It’s still part of my daily journaling practice actually.) So imagine how my heart skipped a beat when this quote came over in James Clear’s weekly email group last Thursday ⤵

"Anytime in my life when I have managed to go from a vision to a reality, the vision has not been a plan but a practice. . .

What matters is not having a vision, but rather making a habit of returning to and revising the vision. For the big things in my life, I'm always coming back to them week after week—sometimes day after day.

As new information arrives, the vision gets updated.

The dream becomes more crystallized over time. It's a habit of thinking about where you want to go with an ever-increasing degree of clarity.

You do not need a vision, you need the practice of envisioning."

~ James Clear, author of Atomic Habits

I especially love this bit ⤵

“As new information arrives, the vision gets updated. . . You do not need a vision, you need the practice of envisioning."

I’ve been thinking about those words all week. Here’s why — because life is all about perpetual shifts. None of us is immune. But that doesn’t mean those shifts get any easier as we age. Sometimes we just have to keep working and dreaming until we know the next step to take.

We need to know it’s okay to revise our visions, dreams, & plans.

We need to know revising is a critical part.

Speaking of revising our dreams, something else that’s been on my mind this week is how hard it can be to let go of one dream in favor of another and how to know what’s right. So I’ve been reading a few long-form articles I wrote on the topic a few years ago. . .

This weekend, I hope your windows are filled with sunshine☀️, your walks are long & soul-filling🌲, your bedside table is stacked high with good books📚, and your couch is just the right kind of squishy🛋️.

And if these words are causing something to bubble up in your heart and you’re looking for someone to listen to your big dreams, big questions, or anything really, I’m here.
