Nature Therapy, Books That Heal, and Redefining Life

It’s that time of year again—daylight’s been saved and spring is starting to spring on this side of the planet, and a big anniversary is right around the corner for this little email group of ours (more on that next week). So I thought we might start celebrating early with a few of my favorites from the archives.

These are the posts I’m most proud to share when I meet a new book club friend, the ones I go back to again and again myself whenever I’m looking for courage, perspective, and inspiration.

First up is a piece I wrote for Best Self Magazine many moons ago called “A Walk on the Wild Side: Nature as Therapy”containing a couple of gorgeous photos of hiking in Acadia and a funny story about my first attempt at meeting with a therapist.

Next is another piece I wrote for Best Self Magazine called “Redefining Togetherness: One Mother’s Quest for an Adventurous Family Life”. This one is all about having the courage to choose a different life when we need to (minus the self-destruction) and how the big decisions and small choices we make along the way enable us to rewrite our own stories while they’re happening.

Another post I love to read again and again is a piece I wrote a couple of years into my current season of life called “How do we finally start living the life of our dreams?” In it, I share what I believe is the #1 biggest secret to getting that thing you’re chasing (& spoiler: it’s probably not what you think).

And last but not least, a piece that never fails to bring tears to my eyes and prompt a gut check no matter what my current season of life is “Stop This Train: Reassessing and Resetting Life, Work, and Family”. If you’ve been uncertain about where you want to take your life story next, hopefully this one will encourage you.

I hope you find something in there you love, but should you need a little more, there’s a brand new favorites page on my website right now bursting at the seams with more good stuff from the archives (link here), and “My Top 25 Favorites of All Time” from this time last year with even more (link here).

I also found these that didn’t quite make the cut but I still love

P.S. In the spirit of last week’s message, I put every book you recommended on my TBR list and chose to start with Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt (a good book I put off for far too long). I’m absolutely loving it. What are you reading?

Write back—I’d love to know.
