5 Little Things: This and That Edition
Happy May, my friend ~ and if you have a young person, enthusiastic summer addict, or gardener in your life, welcome to the busy season!
The sun has been shining in my neck of the woods, the weather has turned warm, and everything has decided to burst from its boundaries this week — my homeschooler is finishing up his last class (which means my 17-year homeschooling era has ended), my seedlings are all of a sudden bursting from their trays and requiring a trim, potting up, or giving away, and nearly every project at work has ballooned into overtime territory.
Which means my brain has definitely reached its limit for big projects, but I still have five little things to share with you this morning. If your life is bursting at the seams right now too, hopefully this will be encouraging and refreshing.

As mentioned in last week’s message, last weekend really was such a good weekend to be a booklover (then again, isn’t every weekend?!) I celebrated Indie Bookstore Day by buying a couple of books WAY outside of my comfort zone, and I’m so excited/scared to read them I can hardly wait ⤵

The tomato seedlings are getting a bit overwhelming ~ how in the world I ended up with so many (83!) from just a few seeds, I will never know. So, I’m giving away plants everywhere I go these days. If you’re in Western Maine (or passing through soon) and would like to grow a beautiful organic heirloom or cherry tomato plant this summer, let me know! I’ll bring some out of the greenhouse, and our sweet Bacon the rescue kitty will be waiting at the front door for you.

Speaking of plants, I’ve gone deep down the rabbit hole of gardening tips and tricks from the folks at Epic Gardening, and I recently learned from their “bushy basil” article (link here) that if you’re trying to grow beautifully bushy basil plants and prevent them from going to flower and producing bitter leaves, then you need to trim them a certain way. I tried my hand at the first trim this week and ended up with the best pesto I’ve ever tasted. I can’t help but think this might be a most delicious summer!

A friendly reminder that doing our best never means running ourselves all the way to empty, not taking care of ourselves, body, soul, mind, and spirit, or sacrificing ourselves on the altar of expectations. Wherever you are this weekend, I hope you find some time for yourself, a bit of space to breathe, and a surprising bit of love where you least expect it.

If you’re new here or haven’t been to the website lately, I’ve made quite a few changes there recently — the biggest being to the Home page where I share who I am and why I write these Friday morning book club emails. If you’re interested in a quick read with a few more good links, I’d love to see you over there (link here).
See you next Friday!
